Because a bar and restaurant shutdown doesn’t mean living without your favourite beer!
As of the beginning of this week the public authorities forced bars to close to the general public amid public health concerns and the spread of the coronavirus. But living in Malta amidst the bar and restaurant shutdown doesn’t mean living without your favourite brew.
Craft beer lovers around the island understand that the beer they love comes from specialised breweries, whose focus on high quality ingredients means higher costs, and with all bars closed these are hard times for craft breweries.
Thankfully, the craft beer scene has evolved significantly and there are now a number of options for stay-home drinkers to get their favourite beers from their local supermarket and also delivered to their homes. Here are our favourite ones, in our order of preference based on how many different beers they normally have in stock:
Beer Head – Malta’s favourite craft beer bottle shop with an excellent range, well-informed staff and great prices.
Tower Supermarket Sliema – Quite a nice range of different beers including BrewDog, Poppels, Brussels Beer Project, Founders and Stone. Very good prices.
Valyou Supermarket Pender – Extensive range of BrewDog.
Greens Supermarket Swieqi – Very good range of beers including great gluten free, non-alcoholic options that are not available in other supermarkets, including BrewDog, Poppels, Brussels Beer Project, and Stone.
Sliema Mini Market (Sliema Ferries Seafront) – Good range of BrewDog and Stone
Park Towers Supermarket Gourmet Spinola – Stone and BrewDog
Park Towers Supermarket City Centre B’kara – Stone and BrewDog
Onehourwines.com – Very fast delivery promised, this is an online shop only. Basic BrewDog and Brussels Beer Project available. BrewDog in 4-Packs only,
