This limited edition, small batch IPA is a hoppy explosion of citrus fruits, with grapefruit in the limelight, followed by hints of mango and passion fruit. Still, there is room left for a nice malt structure – just enough – as well as for delicate fermentation flavours. The bitterness is incisive and persistent, just as the brewers at De La Senne like it (and are incredibly famous for!)
Now Yves and Bernard would tell you that they are not known as the guys who normally brew IPAs (not West Coast IPAs anyway). Why? Because everybody does it, and they thrive on being different. But when brewer Jeff Bagby, authentic Californian and expert of West Coast IPAs goes to visit Brussels, De La Senne are ready for a stylistic exercise! They share with Jeff an extreme love for balanced beers, as well as a profound disavowal for ‘too fashionable’ hops. This is why they went for not simply American hops, but ‘old school’ hops that remind you of the first IPAs of the US. Then the beer was given a great Belgian twist (schieve) by using the De La Senne house yeast and both bottle and keg refermentation, which is not usual for this type of beer. A real artisanal creation.
